Week 5 EOC: How will you organize your job search time and follow up to get results?

There are many ways  would organize my job search time and follow up to get results.  For Example, I would schedule a specific day or days where I can give my undivided attention toward the matter.  Also, I can search on the internet to subscribe myself to upcoming events where I can introduce my network and multimedia establishments. Or go online and sign-up to free job searching website, such as; monster.com and indeed.com. Walk around the area closest or farthest from you to find out whose hiring at there business' location. go and visit my career advisor at school to become knowledgeable on any job leads that is close to what I am looking for. Talk to goal-oriented people around you because they may have some information on job leads or looking for someone to collaborate with them.  I will either call, email or fax employers for follow ups to get results.

Week 4 EOC: Deeper Meaning of "Devil Wears Prada"

In New York, the simple and naive just-graduated in journalism Andrea Sachs is hired to work as the second assistant of the powerful and sophisticated Miranda Priestly, the ruthless and merciless executive of the Runway fashion magazine. Andrea dreams to become a journalist and faces the opportunity as a temporary professional challenge. The first assistant Emily advises Andrea about the behavior and preferences of their cruel boss, and the stylist Nigel helps Andrea to dress more adequately for the environment. Andrea changes her attitude and behavior, affecting her private life and the relationship with her boyfriend Nate, her family and friends. In the end, Andrea learns that life is made of choices.

Not only does the film reveal the challenges of obtaining job opportunities for women in a career, but establishes some of the do's and don'ts when you are set and present for a job interview.  For example, Don't come to an interview in casual attire similar to what Andrea was wearing in the film. Do your research on the company you have applied beforehand so you can understand the company and develop proper questions. Arrive 10 minutes early prior to the interview start time or earlier if the event or employer instructs you to do so. Treat other people you encounter with courtesy and respect. Their opinions of you might be solicited during hiring decisions. Maintain good eye contact during the interview. Be honest and be yourself — your best professional self.  Dishonesty gets discovered and is grounds for withdrawing job offers and for firing. You want a good match between yourself and your employer. If you get hired by acting like someone other than yourself, you and your employer will both be unhappy.

Week 3 EOC: Deeper Meaning of "Swingers" Film

The film “Swingers” reveals some valid information and tips on etiquette that can be helpful to a person when pursuing their chosen careers and dreams while networking.  For example, be brave and confident in yourself when introducing yourself to a company’s employer(s).  Also, choose wisely when you make business card exchanges; exchange your card with someone when it will be if benefit to both of you.  Mainly when someone asks for a card or when you offer your assistance with something they want or need them to follow up on with you. Then ask for their contact information. When entering a group, approach and stand quietly for a second or two.

Wait for a break in the conversation or for someone in the group to look your way. If no one looks in your direction and everyone continues the conversation without any break or glance in your direction, exit immediately with “excuse me.”  It is apparent they are in a heavy conversation, not choosing to invite anyone else into the conversation. The key to successful networking is to show you are interested in the people you meet. For the most impact, sending a personal handwritten note (by regular mail,) within 24 to 48 hours to every person you met and reconnected with at a networking opportunity is the best. Emailing and placing a personal telephone call is also appropriate, including writing or calling someone who has helped give you leads and referrals. Be sure to fulfill any promises you made to people you’ve met.
